Here, I have looked into the type of photography that Billboard use which is usually a mid-close up to keep the audience drawn to her face and so are aware that the main focus of the magazine is on the cover star, which is relevant for the first billboard cover with the cover star being Ariana Grande as she is a solo artist and so the camera shot gives insight into how the magazine should solely focus on her.
However, there are certain times where the magazine uses a full length shot so that the audience too see the surroundings of the cover star as well as the mise-en-scene included such as the Selena Gomez Billboard issue, which uses a full length shot to allow the audience to see the exotic and unusual setting which may imply how unusual and stunning the cover star is as exotic areas are associated with beauty and for not being too explored.
Additionally, the use of mise-en-scene within the first issue of Billboard is slightly effective as the use of a spotty helmet gives the impression of how outstanding and uncommon a star like Ariana Grande comes along, since the helmet is similar to a space helmet which could imply that the artist is 'out of this world'.
More so, the second billboard issue uses mise-en-scene by conveying the ethos of the magazine itself since the artist is wearing quite formal clothing (a white and black suit) but in a stylish way it implies that though she is a trendy and fashionable music artist she still takes her work seriously and in a professional manner and also reflects the ethos of billboard magazine being 'cool yet professional
From the research I have completed I now know that the clothing the cover star wears is quite relevant to represent the artist and the magazine itself while additionally, the camera work and angles have a range of different purposes depending on what I want to convey to my target demographic.'.
